Wedding Ceremony

Ready to display your love to everyone? Getting married is one of the most beautiful events of your life, with so much to do, allow me to make it unique and showcase your love and what makes you, you.

From our first contact and meeting, I look to find out everything about your relationship, how it began, how you fell in love and how you both knew you found the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. From our first meeting, I will go through all the information that you need, from legal paperwork to the ceremony format through to the rehearsal and the big day, I will help guide you with professionalism, while honoring traditions and helping to make a memory you can both cherish.

What is a wedding?

A Wedding Ceremony is a legally binding commitment between two people which includes interfaith, same sex, heterosexual couples and second marriages.

The advantage of Wedding Ceremony over a civil ceremony, is that it is more personalized, and can be held in more informal and formal settings. Amongst the more traditional elements of the ceremony such as exchange of vows, you can tailor your ceremony to include more personal elements such as:

  • ï‚· Traditions like hand tying, jumping the broom, exchange of Varmala (flower garlands)

  • ï‚· Rituals such as candle lighting, sand ceremonies

  • ï‚· Acknowledgement of parents

  • ï‚· The blending of one family

Where do we get started?

To start, we need a date, a time and a location. This way I can ensure that I can be available to you, then we can start planning your ceremony!
I can't wait to meet you both, coffee or wine at mine, or we can meet over a video call, whatever is easier for you. Our first meeting is an easy "no obligation" and an opportunity for you to get to know me and where you can ask me any questions and I can help bring your ideas to life.

I will ask you to bring to our first meeting, original documentation to establish your identities, including any of the following (where applicable):
  •  a full Birth Certificate, or an official extract of an entry in an official register, AND
  •  a driver’s licence, by way of photo ID, OR
  •  an Australian or overseas Passport showing the date and place of birth (*this form of ID replaces both a Birth Certificate and Driver’s Licence); AND
  •  evidence of any name changes since birth; AND
  •  evidence of any divorce or death of a party’s spouse.

At our meeting, I will explain all the legal paperwork that will bind you both, including the Notice of Intended Marriage the Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage, Marriage Certificates and application to the Registry for an official Certificate.

The Notice is the initial legal document that needs to be completed and submitted to me, your Authorized Marriage Celebrant, at least one calendar month prior to your wedding date, and no earlier than 18 months. This can be done during our first meeting or any subsequent meetings.

The Declaration is the second legal document that must be prepared. It’s advisable to sign this as close to your ceremony date as possible to ensure that all information is accurate and current. You can sign it during your rehearsal or on the day of the ceremony, as long as it’s completed before the ceremony starts, with the signing time noted.

Once the Notice is signed, I am legally obligated to provide you with a brochure titled "Happily Ever…Before and After." This brochure covers essential topics such as the importance of marriage, marriage education, counseling, dispute resolution, changing your name, creating a will, and taxation.

As a Registered Online Service Provider with the QLD Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages, I can apply for an official copy of your Marriage Certificate on your behalf after the ceremony. This certificate is necessary if either party wishes to change their surname. Starting July 1, 2024, the application fee (which you will need to pay to the Registry) will be $54.40 plus postage, though fees may differ by state.

On your wedding day, you will need two legal witnesses to sign the Marriage Certificates. They can be family members, provided they are 18 years or older. ID is not required unless I need to verify their age.
